This is the first in a new series of articles about Training & Competence (T&C) and personal development. We’re going to be looking at why T&C isn’t just another ‘compliance’ topic and how getting it right will make life easier and change your business for the better.
If you work for an FCA authorised firm, you’ll be aware of the FCA’s expectations around Training & Competence (T&C). The FCA doesn’t shout too loudly about it, but believe us when we tell you that it’s high on their radar.
As compliance consultants, we see all sorts of good, bad and plain ugly when it comes to personal development within the regulated space. It’s not so much that firms are trying to get it wrong, rather, they just don’t know any other way.
Let’s be clear – minimum requirements are ‘old hat’. What the FCA is really looking for is a mindset of curiosity and a learning ethic throughout your firm which reaches far into the distance.
And that makes perfect sense – after all, continuous personal development’s critical if your business is to excel.
The following articles in this series are going to give you some inside intelligence about the mistakes that we see firms make. In each case, we’ll highlight how you might consider a different approach that will really make your employees (including your senior team) stand out.
